Sasha Obama Has Strong Ties To This Sorority at University of Michigan, Will She Join?

Sasha Obama will have an easy in to one of University of Michigan's most prosperous sororities if she chooses to rush.

The former first family member will begin classes at the college campus next week and if she is hoping to join the Greek system, the 18-year-old already has legacy ties to a pretty good organization.

Barack and Michelle Obama's youngest daughter will have no problem joining Alpha Kappa Alpha because the former first lady was once made an honorary membership of the sorority.

Luckily for Sasha, AKA has a chapter, Beta Eta, on campus so rush will be a breeze for the new college student.

Alpha Kappa Alpha was started in the early 1900's at Howard University and has maintained it's commitment to spreading African-American sisterhood on campus' everywhere.

There are currently over 1,000 chapters of the sorority nationwide.

Sasha's famous mom did not join a sorority when she was an undergraduate at Princeton University in the '80s.

It wasn't until her reign as first lady that she was invited to join the historical “divine nine" sorority.

Michelle Obama initially accepted an invitation to become an honorary member of Alpha Kappa Alpha in 2008.

However, a short while later she decided to decline the official invitation so that she could remain open to supporting other organizations.

Usually, once a member gets inducted into a sorority, they are unable to join any other sorority.

At the time, Michelle's representative made it clear the first lady's acceptance was non-exclusive.

Like any legacy, if Sasha Obama decides to join Alpha Kappa Alpha like her mom, she's in.

If the college freshman wants to be her own person and join a different sorority, she has the ability to do so too.
