As Season 2 of “The Conners” is set to premiere, actress Sara Gilbert is speaking out about her disagreements with Roseanne Barr and her experiences with Julie Chen on the daytime show “The Talk.”
Gilbert, who was an original cast member of “Roseanne,” its brief reboot and its spinoff, also spoke about what led to the cancellation of the reboot and the success of “The Conners.”
ABC canceled “Roseanne” in 2018 after comments Barr made online about Valerie Jarrett, a former government official who was senior adviser to former President Barack Obama.
After Barr’s tweet, Gilbert spoke out on social media, saying:
“Roseanne’s recent comments about Valerie Jarrett, and so much more, are abhorrent and do not reflect the beliefs of our cast and crew or anyone associated with our show. I am disappointed in her actions to say the least.”

Barr says she blames Gilbert for effectively ending “Roseanne.”
According to USA Today, Barr said: “She destroyed the show and my life with that tweet. She will never get enough until she consumes my liver with a fine Chianti.”
Barr eventually apologized for her tweet.
Gilbert seems to bear no ill will, however.
“I have warm feelings for Roseanne, and I will always care about her and love her and hope that she’s happy.”
As far as Gilbert leaving “The Talk,” she says there was just too much on her plate.
“It was the right move at this time in my life, with ‘The Talk,’ ‘The Conners,’ the production company I launched with Tom, and having three kids. There just wasn’t enough time.”
And when moderator Julie Chen left the show after accusations of sexual misconduct against her husband, Leslie Moonves, Gilbert says that was a particularly rough time.
“That was tough, because we just thought we were going back to work, and then… she wasn’t coming.”
Gilbert doesn’t seem to have any regrets, though she’s sad she’s no longer on “The Talk.”
“I miss being with that family,” she adds.
