Sam Hunt Will Not Perform At NASCAR Awards After DUI Arrest

By Jeff Mazzeo

Sam Hunt has pulled out of his scheduled performance at the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Awards following his recent arrest for driving under the influence, according to Rolling Stone.

It was announced that Hunt would be one of the featured headliners for the December 5th event in Nashville but the "Body Like A Back Road" singer will no longer perform. It will be the first time the awards will be held in Nashville and will be a fitting end to the inaugural NASCAR Champion's Week.

Hunt was arrested on Thursday, November 21, and booked into the Metro jail around 6:30 AM. He was charged with driving under the influence and having an open container in his vehicle.

According to the arrest warrant, obtained by Nashville's WKRN, Hunt was seen driving the wrong way down an East Nashville road.

The country singer reportedly had trouble handing over his driver's license and gave the officer his credit card and passport instead. He reportedly had a blood alcohol content of .173 which is more than twice the legal limit of .08. He was released around 9 a.m. on a $2,500 bond.

Sam issued an apology and a statement via his Twitter account.

"Wednesday night I decided to drive myself home after drinking at a friend’s show in downtown Nashville. It was a poor and selfish decision and I apologize to everyone who was unknowingly put at risk and let down by it. It won’t happen again."

He Was Seen Out Partying Before His Arrest

Photos, that have since been taken down, surfaced on social media that showed the star partying and having a good time in the hours before his arrest.

Hunt was drinking at The Ainsworth, a local Nashville sports bar located in midtown. He posed for a group shot with friends and appears to be holding a bottle of beer in his right hand. He also wore the blue hoodie that he was arrested in and was captured in his mugshot.

Fans Were Disappointed

Many fans expressed their frustration with the news that Hunt was trending online because of his arrest and not his highly anticipated album. Others were confused as to why a famous person would drive themselves.

"Sam Hunt getting arrested for a DUI and handing the cops his credit card is the weirdest thing I have ever heard. Like. You’re Sam Hunt. That sh**ty pop country money can buy you an Uber. Stupid" one person commented.

Another wrote, "saw sam hunt trending and got very excited only to be severely let down. a) how do rich people get DUIs? just hire a car, you're rich! b) where's the damn album?"

Since the success of his 2014 album, "Montevallo", fans have been clamoring for a full album but the singer has only released singles like "Kinfolks” which came out in October.

Pulling out of the award show maybe the best move for Hunt but his millions of fans will be disappointed.
