Luann de Lesseps is hitting the booze again in the new year after completing her court-ordered probation stemming from her 2017 arrest. The "Real Housewives of New York" star opened up about introducing alcohol back into her life to PEOPLE. Revealing the news, the "Countess and Friends" cabaret performer told the outlet that after months of sobriety, she's recently made the decision to allow herself a drink on occasion. It's a decision that Luann de Lesseps has reportedly come to "responsibly" and "slowly."

“New Year’s has been a time of reflection,” the 54-year-old star told PEOPLE. “I’ve learned a great deal about myself, and I’m in a very good place and finally back in the drivers seat.” Continuing, the Countess said, “I’ve always said my journey is day by day,” adding, “I’m toasting to a happy new year ahead!” Luann de Lesseps' decision comes after an emotional year which included getting sober and dealing with the backlash from her arrest in December 2017.

As The Blast reported, Luann de Lesseps was arrested for felony battery on an officer, disorderly intoxication, and resisting an arrest with violence. Following her arrest, she made several changes like voluntarily going to rehab not once, but twice. When she returned to rehab, it forced her to miss the "RHONY" season 10 reunion taping. She was on probation for one year, which included not drinking. Luann agreed to 50 hours of community service, attending two AA meetings per week and completing a Victim Impact Class put on by Mother's Against Drunk Driving.

Her sobriety was questioned again when she failed her alcohol test in April. Luann de Lesseps later admitted to “drinking 2 glasses of mimosas after a [cabaret] performance she had in Chicago.” She struck a new probation deal with the judge which included monthly psychiatric sessions and weekly call-in counseling sessions. The Countess completed her probation in late August and reflected on the ordeal. “Hi my friends, I’m happy to say after a difficult year…I’ve made it through!” she shared on her Instagram on Aug. 28. “I’m humbled and grateful for this life lesson and ready to put the past behind me and move on with my life.”
