According to multiple reports, U.S. District Court Judge Esther Salas’ who heard high profile cases including the Giudices’s criminal case, was the victim of a home invasion where her son was fatally shot by a perpetrator, and her husband was also injured.
The suspect believed to have posed as a FedEx delivery person entered the home and shot Sala’s son. The shooter also fired at Sala’s defense attorney husband, Mark Anderl.
“Teresa was very shaken by the news and was very emotional when she heard about it,” Teresa’s lawyer said in a statement.
He continued, “She told me that she would be praying very heavily for Judge Salas and her family.”
The judge was in charge of the financial fraud cases involving “Real Housewives of New Jersey” stars Joe and Teresa Giudice.
At the time, Salas sentenced them to prison for crimes including bankruptcy fraud and tax evasion. But, Salas staggered their sentences, which is something they were very thankful for — so one of them was out at all times to take care of their children.
According to reports, a motive has not been established for violent crime, but Salas has been involved in several other high-profile cases.
Recently, Salas has presided over an ongoing lawsuit by Deutsche Bank investors against the company for false and misleading statements about its money-laundering policies.
The suit claims the company failed to monitor “high-risk” customers including convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
According to reports, Salas was in the basement during the shooting and was not injured. At this point, it’s unclear if the target of the crime was in fact the judge.
