Rapper Dave East was taken into custody by police for possession of weed, hours before having to deal with a close friend’s funeral.
According to reports, the rapper was a passenger in a car that was pulled over by the New York Police Department around 1 a.m. on Friday.
The vehicle was originally pulled over for the driver failing to signal to make a turn. The reports state officers smelled “a strong odor or marijuana and took a passenger out of the vehicle.”
The passenger was identified as David Brewster, the rapper’s birth name, and accused of becoming aggressive and “non-complaint with officers.”
The rapper was taken to the 114th prescient, where police say he was cooperative with investigators. He provided them with his ID and was issued two summonses and released. He was cited for disorderly conduct and marijuana possession.
Dave East post a video from the scene of the arrest. In the video, you can see Dave being taken out of the car by NYPD. As he exit from the car, there is a brief struggle between Dave and the officers. He tells them he is nto resisting and they walk him to the cop car.
One woman creams, “no, no, no, please” while another lady tells him, “East, you gotta be to be at the funeral tomorrow.”
The rapper’s friends and bystanders shout “that’s harassment. That’s harassment. You’re harassing him. You might as well lock everybody up. That’ some bullsh-t.”
Dave is currently mourning the loss of his close friend, rapper Kiing Shooter, who recently passed away from complications relating to Covid. He was originally admitted into the hospital on April 23, 2020 “after showing symptoms of cirrhosis, which worsened over time until he passed away on May 5.
Dave captioned a video of his arrest, “REST IN PARADISE SHOOTER SHIT DONT STOP FUCC NYPD TILL I SEE U AGAIN ?”
