Rance Howard — an actor and father to director Ron Howard and actor Clint Howard — passed on Saturday at the age of 89.
Ron Howard made the announcement on Twitter, writing, “Clint & I have been blessed to be Rance Howard’s sons. Today he passed at 89. He stood especially tall 4 his ability to balance ambition w/great personal integrity. A depression-era farm boy, his passion for acting changed the course of our family history. We love & miss U Dad.”
The elder Howard had roles in films like “Chinatown,” “Ed Wood,” and “Independence Day.” He appeared in a number of movies directed by his son, including “A Beautiful Mind,” “Apollo 13,” “Parenthood,” and “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.”
