R. Kelly SHUT DOWN In His Attempt To Get Out Of Prison

By Ryan Naumann

R. Kelly has suffered another setback in his criminal case with a judge denying his plea to be released from prison.

According to court documents obtained by The Blast, a New York federal court judge has ordered Kelly will remain behind bars until trial. The court was not persuaded by the alleged child sex predator’s argument for release.

As The Blast previously reported, Kelly has been using the current health situation to try and get himself out on bond. He claimed it was dangerous while locked up in Chicago MCC with the other inmates so close.

In the newly filed order, the judge says, “While I am sympathetic to the defendant’s understandable anxiety about COVID-19, he has not established compelling reasons warranting his release. At present, there are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 at the MCC in Chicago.”

He adds, “The Bureau of Prisons has announced emergency measures to protect inmates and staff, including suspending all legal and social visits, suspending inmate facility transfers, making soap available to inmates, screening and testing inmates and staff.”

The judge says 53-year-old Kelly is quite younger than those at most risk. The order notes, “Although the defendant has had a surgery during his incarceration, he does not explain how his surgical history places him at a higher risk of severe illness. Moreover, officials in Chicago have advised the government that doctors have completed all treatment for the defendant’s recent operation.”

Kelly argued he was not able to properly build his defense for the upcoming trial due to his lawyers not able to visit. The judge says that doesn’t matter because it appears unlikely the trial will proceed as scheduled on July 7, 2020. Lastly, the judge says Kelly still poses a risk to society.

He notes,” The defendant is currently in custody because of the risks that he will flee or attempt to obstruct, threaten or intimidate prospective witnesses. The defendant has not explained how those risks have changed.”

As The Blast first reported, Kelly’s proposed plan included him being under house arrest in an apartment with his girlfriend, Joycelyn Savage.
