As The Blast first reported, Kelly suffered another setback in his criminal case this week. A judge shut down his second request to be released from prison on bond.

Kelly argued the conditions inside MCC Chicago are dangerous given the current health crisis. He feared for his safety while locked inside prison awaiting his trials.

He proposed being under house arrest with his girlfriend, Joycelyn Savage. He failed to mention the apartment was in the middle of an outdoor shopping mall, which might have been a problem given the charges he is currently facing.

Prosecutors checked Kelly every step of the way demanding the judge not let him out of prison. They argue he was still a flight risk given his resources and a possible danger to society.

They don’t believe his claims of being broken and believe he has diverted his music royalties to a childhood friend’s bank account.

At one point, Kelly brought up his $1.8 million tax debt with the IRS. He thought the debt would persuade a judge he had no resources to leave the country.

The judge found Kelly is charged with tampering with witnesses in this case. He denied Kelly’s motion ordering him to remain at MCC Chicago. The court order read, "Kelly is not “uniquely at risk for contracting severe illness.”
