R. Kelly is facing new charges related to sexual assault and other sex abuse crimes, charges that are far more serious than anything else he has faced.
According to the Chicago Tribune, Kelly was charged on Thursday with 11 new felonies with some of the charges carrying a potential sentence of up to 30 years in prison.
The additional charges against Kelly with four counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault, two counts of criminal sexual assault by force, two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, and three counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse against a victim between the ages of 13 to 16.
Kelly’s attorney, Steve Greenberg, tweeted that the singer “was NOT charged with a new case. He was recharged in an existing case, same alleged victim and time (a decade ago) It changes nothing.”
Gerald Griggs, an attorney who represents the family of one of Kelly’s alleged victims, tells The Blast, “This further cements the fact that the victims have been true to their stories and law enforcement is finally listening.”
The singer is scheduled to appear in court on the new case June 6.
This is a developing story …
