R. Kelly's Lawyer Asks For His RELEASE After Singer Is Victim Of Violent Prison Assault

By Mike Walters

R. Kelly's legal team is asking that the disgraced singer be RELEASED from prison after he was the victim of a reported violent assault at the hands of another inmate.

The singer's lawyer, Steve Greenberg, took to Twitter to confirm the musician was attacked while behind bars -- and says it is time to release him based on the fact the government cannot ensure his safety.

R. Kelly's current condition is unknown, and his legal team says they are now getting 'conflicting' information as to how bad the beating and injuries were for the singer.

R. Kelly's Team Asks For His Release After Being Beaten Behind Bars!

"Yesterday we were told that an inmate had attacked R Kelly at the MCC in Chicago. We received conflicting reports as to the extent of his injuries. We have not been provided any information from the jail, nor has Mr. Kelly called. We are hopeful that he was not seriously injured," Greenberg tweeted.

As we reported, R. Kelly was allegedly punched several times while inside of his cell by another inmate. According to one report, the prisoner was frustrated with several 'lock-downs' which were promoted by protestors who showed up at the prison asking for the singer's release.

'We've Received Conflicting Reports As To The Extent Of His Injuries'

"Regardless, it is time to release Mr. Kelly. The government cannot ensure his safety, and they cannot give him his day in court. We should not incarcerate people indefinitely because we cannot provide them with due process!" Greenberg added.

As we reported, R. Kelly is upset with prosecutors who have asked to push back his upcoming court date due to restrictions following the COVID-19 outbreak.

"The pandemic and its related difficulties, including the need to quarantine witnesses, and the difficulties associated with the trial of this magnitude in the current environment," are the issues cited by the government.

R. Kelly's legal team responded with similar accusations about the prison conditions.

R. Kelly Describes The Prison Conditions As 'Archaic' and 'Medieval'

“Frankly, that is not Mr. Kelly’s fault and that should not be Mr. Kelly’s problem, and Mr. Kelly should not be the one who has to suffer, remaining in archaic jail conditions that are medieval so that the Government can more conveniently prosecute its case," his response read.

They continued, “If witnesses are required to remain in quarantine for fourteen (14) days so that they may present whatever story they have against Mr. Kelly, then so be it. He has had to remain in virtual solitary confinement for over a year. The inconvenience to the witnesses pales in comparison."

At this point, it's unclear if the prison is even considering a move for R. Kelly or his release.
