R. Kelly‘s wife of 13 years says the allegations against the singer “ring true” to her life because he was “verbally, emotionally, physically, sexually” abusive towards her.
Drea Kelly and her daughter with R. Kelly, Joann, were guests on Monday on “Good Morning Britain” with Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid. During the nine-minute interview, Drea spoke about her relationship with the singer and how they both grew up around abuse.
“I am a firm believer that if you have been abused, it does not give you a free pass to be an abuser,” Drea said.
While she was willing to talk about her specific situation with Kelly, she said she was unable to confirm or deny the allegations made against him by other women.
Kelly’s daughter Joann talked about being “torn” about the allegations and how it is “painful to see all these people affected by this man who is my father.”
Joann also revealed her father has not tried to contact her in a while and it has been a few years since they have seen or spoken to each other.
R. Kelly has denied all allegations against him.
