A Tough Year

It's safe to say that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have had a tough year. Not only is Harry dealing with a persistent rift with his brother, William, but Meghan has been constantly vilified by the press.

In the documentary Harry & Meghan: An African Journey, Markle opened up about the difficulties that she has faced since becoming a member of the Royal Family.

"When I first met my now-husband, my friends were really happy because I was so happy, but my British friends said to me: ‘I’m sure he’s great but you shouldn’t do it because the British tabloids will destroy your life’. And I very naively, I’m American, we don’t have that there, what are you talking about, that doesn’t make any sense. I’m not in tabloids, I didn’t get it. So, it’s been complicated."

A Beautiful Engagement

Even thought it has been difficult for the Sussexes lately, they are still in love and growing together as a couple. Their official Instagram account posted a lovely, previously unreleased engagement photo along with a commemorative caption and other photos showing their recent relationship progression.

On this day, two years ago:

27th of November 17, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announce the news of their engagement, later becoming Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex! They have since celebrated their wedding anniversary and welcomed their son, Archie into the world ❤️

Their Love Has Grown

The picture reminds fans of happier times, when Harry and Meghan were allowed to be a happily engaged couple without such pernicious input from the outside world. In their post-engagement BBC interview, the clearly loved up couple were all smiles.

While you would think that a prince would go all out with an elaborate proposal, Harry went simple and romantic and proposed while the two of them were cooking a roast chicken at Nottingham Cottage. According to Markle,

"It was just an amazing surprise. It was so sweet and natural and very romantic."

Their Lives Now

Harry echoed that sentiment in the BBC interview.

"The fact that I fell in love with Meghan so incredibly quickly was sort of confirmation to me that all of the stars were aligned, everything was just perfect. [There] was this beautiful woman, who just sort of literally tripped and fell into my life [and] I fell into her life."

Harry has done the work to defend Meghan against the unfair press, and there is the possibility that they will move away from England to raise their family. Whatever happens, it seems like this couple is in it for the long haul and that they will be a strong team no matter where they end up.
