Leaving Behind Their Senior Royal Status

Things have gotten contentious between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle and the rest of the British Royal Family, with the couple deciding to step down as senior Royals. Their year-long trial period begins in March, and Harry and Meghan are finishing up their last round of senior royal duties.

One of the stipulations of their new role from the Queen is that they are not to use "Sussex Royal" in any of their branding from now on. The couple issued a statement from their website saying:

"While there is not any jurisdiction by the monarchy over the use of the word 'royal' overseas, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex do not intend to use any iteration of the word 'royal' in any territory."

One of Harry's final royal events was a working summit for his sustainable travel initiative, Travalyst. The event was his first public appearance following the news that they will no longer be using their royal titles, and event host Ayesha Hazarika informed the crowd that he did not want to be referred to as "Prince" while he was there.

"He's made it clear that we are all just to call him Harry. So ladies and gentlemen, please give a big, warm, Scottish welcome to Harry!"

His Sustainable Travel Initiative

His speech went well, addressing to representatives from travel giants Booking.com, Skyscanner, Trip.com, TripAdvisor, and Visa, and he encouraged them to support the initiative.

"I want to help create a platform where all of us concerned about these issues can work together, where competitors can unite and incentivise a positive systemic change. There’s a reason why this hasn’t been tried before, but with our partners we have the best shot.

We have made a great start since launching in Amsterdam, but we will not reach our goal of a more sustainable industry without on-the-ground experience and expertise, and this is why we’re here today."

It's unknown whether or not Harry will use is formal Mountbatten-Windsor or the simpler Wales like he did in the army, but it's clear that he is pretty dedicated to shedding the royal name as much as possible.

Apparently the Queen "doesn't want to talk about it."

"The queen has been keen to get this resolved because she sees it damaging to the monarchy and on a personal level I think this has been rather hurtful for her."

This drama is surely to continue even when their new roles officially kick in.
