In a recent interview with People about his collaboration with Masters, an app that aids users train with professional athletes, Gus Kenworthy spoke about his mother, Pip Kenworthy, and her support ahead of the Olympics.

Compared to previous years, Kenworthy will be skiing for the UK instead of the USA to honor his mom. He'll be able to do this because of his dual citizenship.

"My mom is my number-one fan. She is obviously a huge supporter of me, but also my friend," he explained to the outlet.

He also added that his mother had always had his back, recalling when she waved "a rainbow flag like a crazy person" after he publicly came out as gay.

"She's just truly been so supportive of me, and I wanted to do this to honor her."

"I'm very excited to get to kind of pay tribute to her at my last Games," he chipped in. "I wish she could be there in person, but, with COVID and everything, she won't be. But I know she's going to be very excited to watch."

Why Is He Competing At Beijing 2022?

The athlete formerly competed in the Sochi Games in 2014 and PyeongChang Games in 2018. He won Olympic silver for Team USA during his first Olympics. This will be the last time the skier will be competing for gold.

"I'm quite old for my sport," he explains. "I've been doing this for a long time. I'm 30 now, and I turned pro when I was 16. So it's been almost half of my life that I've been doing this on a professional level and, obviously, even a lot longer than I was competing before I turned pro."

However, he mentioned that there were "many things" he was excited about in the forthcoming games.

"I think the thing that I am excited about for any competition is just that kind of feeling of nervousness and anticipation and excitement, and then relief when you get to the bottom of the run, and you've landed a run," he began. "I feel like I have very much put in my time, and I have a lot of love for this sport," the free-skier added. "I feel truly, truly, truly grateful for everything that's provided me and everything I've gotten to do because of it. But I'm looking forward to the next chapter in my life and whatever that may hold."

About The Masters App

He also mentioned that he had his partnership with Masters to anticipate. The Olympian hopes to inspire the users to be the best version of themselves by working out with him and other professionals in the four-week courses.

He also explained that the app has an excellent user interface and comes from a good group of people. Also, according to Kenworthy, the app wasn't solely for one exercise as it "encompasses all of the different workouts, tips and tricks for mindfulness, and everything" that he had used for years now.

"Masters is exciting for me because I think it's a great opportunity to connect with my audience, get people involved in fitness, and get people feeling and looking their best," Kenworthy included. "I think it also presents a lot of opportunities moving forward for me because that's something I can continue for years and years, and I'm excited to connect with people over it."

Other professionals involved in the app include runner Emma Coburn, snowboarder Shaun White, soccer player Ada Hegerberg, surfer Kai Lenny, and tennis champion Petra Kvitova.

His Coming Out Moment

The 30-year-old Olympian took to Twitter to state what he had already known about himself seven years ago. "I am gay."

Kenworthy had formerly accrued attention when he inadvertently kissed his then-boyfriend on live TV while competing in Korea.

In the interview with Time, he spoke about his decision to publicly come out after confiding in his family and other loved ones nearly two years ago. He mentioned how he felt nervous about the reception from the sports community.

"They say it's a community of individuals, and everyone is doing their own thing, and it's not a team sport, so you get to be yourself. But you don't really," he explained. "Everyone wears a Red Bull or Monster or Rockstar cap, a T-shirt and jeans, and skate shoes. Everyone drives the same type of car and listens to the same music. The industry isn't the most embracing of someone different. I'm nervous about that."

Who Is Kenworthy Dating At The Moment?

According to an insider's report, the 30-year-old Olympian has been dating Adam Umhoefer for close to two years.
