Paul Marciano Nominated for Re-election to the Board of Guess, Less Than a Year After Resigning Following Sexual Assault Allegations

Paul Marciano is being nominated for re-election to the board of Guess, less than a year after he resigned as Executive Chairman following accusations of sexual assault by various models.

According to a recent company report, Marciano has been nominated to stand for re-election at the Guess Annual Meeting, which is scheduled to take place on June 10, 2019.

Marciano is currently on the board, and is the Chief Creative Officer of the company, but was supposed to end his tenure when his contract expired back in January. The company announced on January 28 that Marciano would remain in his position but his employment would be "at will."

The report touts Marciano's success since joining Guess two months after its inception saying, "He has served in a number of senior executive positions with the Company, including his current role as Chief Creative Officer, a position he has held since August 2015. From August 2015 until June 2018, he also served as Executive Chairman of the Board.”

They failed to mention the reasons behind him ending his tenure as executive chairman of the board.

Last June, Paul Marciano resigned as the executive chairman of the board at Guess after the company paid out settlements to multiple women who accused him of sexual misconduct. The move came after the company conducted an internal investigation.

During the investigation, more than 40 people were interviewed and over 1.5 million pages of documents were reviewed. The docs included emails, social media posts, HR files, video and audio recordings, photos, financial records, and travel itineraries.

The company noted at the time, “Mr. Marciano exercised poor judgment in his communications with models and photographers and in placing himself in situations in which plausible allegations of improper conduct could, and did, arise.”

Once the internal investigation wrapped up, and the findings were presented to the board, Paul resigned as the executive chairman and his brother Maurice took over his duties.

Paul was only to continue work at Guess until January 2019, but it appears Mr. Marciano is going nowhere and is in full swing at the fashion company despite the investigation's findings.
