Nipsey Hussle would have been a proud father this weekend.
The late rapper’s 10-year-old daughter Emani graduated from elementary school and even mentioned her father in her speech.
In a video posted to a fan account, Emani can be seen on stage and saying, “I want to begin by sharing my thankfulness for my mom for believing in me, and my dad, for always being there for me.”
A photo of the happy graduate showed her with her aunt, Samantha Smith, and her brother, 2½-year-old Kross, whose mother is Lauren London.
As The Blast first reported, Smith, who is Nipsey’s sister, has filed to become the legal guardian of Emani and “to ensure that she can continue to live with family members with whom she has always had close ties.” The documents suggest that she had been living primarily with her father prior to his death.
However, Emani’s mother Tanisha is also fighting for custody of the child, and has been showing up to court to argue her case.
Earlier this week, Smith revealed she got a tattoo of Nipsey’s face on her arm.
Showing a detailed image of Nipsey’s face on her shoulder, Samantha wrote a passionate eulogy for her late brother.
“To my brother who is the Key to Life,” Samantha wrote. She followed up with a long verse dedicated to Nipsey.
“To my brother who’s strength is unmatched // To my brother who is honorable // To my brother who keeps his word // To my brother who puts integrity before anything // To my brother who is the Color of Love // To my brother who has the empathy and compassion of God // To my brother who seeks the Truth and nothing less // To my brother who is who he says he is // To my brother who does what he says he will do // To my brother who has lived purposefully // To my brother who always listens // To my brother who has the massive capacity to understand // To my brother who keeps me safe // To my brother who embraces the new and unknown // To my brother who has immense Power // To my brother who dismisses fear // To my brother who lives in the spirit // To my brother who Eternal // To my brother who is the Trees and the Ocean // To my brother who is his children, his mother, his father, his brother, his woman // To my brother who is me I will step into the path you have created I will find what you have found And we will be at home again FOREVER YOUR BABY SISTER/60th STREET SAMANTHA I LOVE YOU BEYOND WHAT LOVE ENTAILS.”
Samantha added that the piece left her “filled with gratitude.”
