According to court documents obtained by The Blast, Petty was indicted and then arrested by the U.S. Marshals for failing to register as a sex offender. Minaj’s husband was convicted of first-degree attempted rape in 1995.
Petty moved from New York to California with Minaj in July 2019. He was pulled over by law enforcement while driving in Beverly Hills in November, which caused the legal issues to begin.
Beverly Hills police determined Petty was a registered sex offender in New York but had no registered himself in California after moving. He was placed under arrest and released on a $20,000 bond. He was charged by the L.A. County D.A. for failing to register as a sex offender.
Things got worse when the feds got involved and hit him with a federal indictment and taken back into custody. He appeared in court and entered a plea of not guilty.
Federal prosecutors asked for Petty to be placed on house arrest, but his attorney successfully argued for only an ankle monitor. The judge imposed a curfew on Petty. He was forced to surrender his passport and will have to post a $100,000 bond.
The court ordered Petty to stay away from drugs, including marijuana. He is scheduled to appear in court later this month.
Nicki Minaj’s ex-boyfriend, Meek Mill, had this to say about the drama, “You won’t never see me liking something about somebody catching a case I just wouldn’t say nothing! End of that.”
If convicted, Petty could be sentenced up to 10 years behind bars including a massive fine. Minaj has stayed silent on the matter and has not commented on the matter.
