'Glee' star Naya Rivera's body has still not been found, but authorities are now using advanced robot cameras and sonar equipment to expand the search.

According to the Ventura County Sheriff's Department, they have deployed a group of underwater robot cameras which can search the depths of Piru Lake -- including areas with minimal visibility.

Authorities released a video of the 'ROV' (remotely operated vehicle) where they come across a dark spot in the water which could have been the actress, but in the end, it is a tree branch.

It does, however, show the kind of debris that is sitting below the surface, and possibly swimmers can get stuck in.

"What they do is they go out and they tow these devices in the water that scan the bottom of the lake for any objects that might look like a body," a sheriff's spokesperson said.

He continued, "Last night, they had a couple of images that showed up on the sonar that they thought might be promising to investigate. This morning, they sent an ROV, or a small robotic device, down into the water to examine those objects. Unfortunately, they did not locate Naya Rivera. They are still searching."

As you can see, officers can stay at the surface and control the robot from the surface and maneuver the robot around the depths of the water.

"Here’s the ROV used by @TulareSheriff in the search for Naya Rivera at Lake Piru today. This is one of many resources being used, along with side-scan sonar, dogs, and divers," the sheriff's tweeted alongside the video.

The photo is underwater and shows the visibility at 30-foot.

"It's very effective," the spokesperson said of the equipment.

Adding, "They get a really detailed image and they can go down and focus on specific things rather than putting divers in the water where they're literally feeling around because they can't see."

Naya's Body May Never Be Found...

As we reported, Naya's body may never be found, after officers said she may be caught in some of the underwater debris -- which can remain in place for a very long time.

But, at this point, the rescue operation is in full motion and over 80 people are at the locations searching for the actress.

The 'Glee' star disappeared last week after renting a boat with her 4-year-old son and taking a ride on the lake. At some point, the boat was found floating on the water, but Naya was nowhere to be found.

Officers have said the initial investigation, including speaking to her son, has indicated no foul play and points towards a terrible accident.
