On the day the news broke, Pelosi tweeted, “The racist, homophobic attack on @JussieSmollett is an affront to our humanity. No one should be attacked for who they are or whom they love. I pray that Jussie has a speedy recovery & that justice is served. May we all commit to ending this hate once & for all.”
While Nancy Pelosi deleted her tweet, most of the big-name celebrities who posted on social media in support of Smollett — most notably Lee Daniels’ video statement — have yet to take down their posts.
On the other side of the spectrum, Donald Trump Jr. has been hammering celebrities who spoke out on Smollett’s behalf, tweeting Monday morning, “Hey Hollywood and media types, I’ve noticed a lot of you deleted your #JusticeForJussie tweets… what’s the matter, don’t you want justice for him anymore??? #frauds.”
Trump Jr. specifically called out Kamala Harris for her support of Jussie Smollett, writing, “I’m wondering if @KamalaHarris still wants #JusticeForJussie? Will she be as vocal about it now or has she moved on?”
He’s even targeted frequent foe Kathy Griffin, who was not having it.
