Did You Catch 'The Office' Easter Egg in the Trailer for 'The Morning Show'?

By Gary Trock

The first official look at "The Morning Show" with Jen Aniston and Steve Carell is out ... and it even pays homage to the World's Best Boss.

The trailer kicks off with Jen Aniston, Alex Levy, announcing to the world that Mitch Kessler, her co-host and partner, has been fired from the network over some sort of allegations.

Carell plays the role of Mitch, and obviously draws similarities to the Matt Lauer situation when he was ousted from NBC over allegations of sexual misconduct.

Aniston at first seems beaten down by the news, but by the end of the trailer has turned the situation around and taken charge of her situation, and the network.

Reese Witherspoon is also featured as the possible new co-host, Bradley Jackson, who is already at odds with Aniston.

Also interesting, the track played throughout the trailer is Supertramp's "Goodbye Stranger," which has some deeper meaning for devoted fans of Carell.

In 2008, the 4th season of "The Office" concluded with Michael Scott singing the same song to Toby Flenderson as he left Dunder Mifflin for a trip to Costa Rica.

Scott had prepared the song specifically for his onscreen nemesis, and even though he belted it out like a champ, Toby didn't appear to appreciate the sentiment, or maybe he did ... Toby's the worst.

"The Morning Show," based on the journalist Brian Stelter's book, "Top of the Morning: Inside the Cutthroat World of Morning TV," looks to capitalize on the dynamic drama that goes on behind the scenes in the world of TV while mixing in a smattering of pop-culture and current events.

It also features Billy Crudup, Mark Duplass, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Karen Pittman, Bel Powley and Janina Gavankar.

It's due to premiere in the Fall.
