'Million Dollar Listing' Home at the Center of $3 Million Fraud Lawsuit

The owner of a home featured on Bravo's "Million Dollar Listing" is now suing the contractors and construction companies behind the home's remodel, claiming they screwed him out of more than $3 million.

According to court documents obtained by The Blast, Daniel Starr (through his company, South of No North, LLC) claims he hired David Herman to manage and supervise the general contractor for a construction project on an 8,000 sq. ft. home in Beverly Hills.

Starr claims Herman said he was a licensed contractor with "the requisite knowledge and skill to complete the multi-million dollar project." In addition, Starr claims Heman told him he hired a company called Jones & Co. Construction to act as general contractor on the project.

But Starr claims Herman did not hold a valid contractor's license in the state of California and that Jones was actually Herman's company. Starr claims Herman used the "shell company" to inflate invoices by as much as 40%.

Starr says had he known the "true facts," he never would have gotten into business with Herman and the other defendants.

In total, Starr claims he shelled approximately $3,672,007.54 to Herman and the other defendants and believes he is entitled to get it all back due to a California law about unlicensed contractors.

In addition to the $3.6 million, Starr is also looking for money paid to subcontractors to repair errors in the work performed by the defendants.

He's also asking for an additional $7.2 million in treble damages.

Starr originally purchased the Beverly Hills home from Mary Sheldon, daughter of "I Dream of Jeanie" creator Sidney Sheldon. He appeared on "Million Dollar Listing" and realtor Josh Flagg gave him hope that the property — which featured a slew of creepy dolls when it was featured on the show — could be turned into a something very special.

Herman is also the junior varsity head coach for the Bishop Gorman football team. The school, located in Nevada, has a top-ranked program and has delivered multiple national championships over the years.

Starr did give the property a new life, and the 8,000 sq ft mansion now has six bedrooms, eight bathrooms and will be listed for $18 million at the end of the year. It's also in a star-studded neighborhood near celebs like Mariah Carey and Paul McCartney.
