Mel Gibson left his Scottish Claymore at home and instead opted for a more nimble sword when he set off for Malibu.

The 63-year-old "Braveheart" star was seen Saturday afternoon headed to the Malibu Country Mart while clutching the hilt of a toy Samurai sword.

Along with the Japanese cutlery, Gibson was sporting a distinguished grey beard.

Gibson was also near the annual "Malibu Chili Cook Off," so it's possible the samurai sword was won by one of his children at the popular carnival.

Gibson welcomed his ninth child, son Lars, with his girlfriend, Rosalind Ross, in January 2017.

Mel has seven children with his first wife Robyn Moore; daughter Hannah, and six sons Edward, Christian, William, Louis, Milo, and Thomas.

He also has a daughter, Lucia, with Russian musician, Oksana Grigorieva.

He looked to be trying to stay under the radar, as the star was wearing sunglasses and a baseball cap while crossing the street into the popular shopping center.

He also appeared to be in great shape, after focusing on his health last year and working with a fitness coach in Australia.

Revealing the regimen during an interview last year, fitness trainer Samantha Jackson explained that she had constant conversations with Gibson related to his fitness, and that she helped him lose over 10 inches around his belly.

The star recently returned from a vacation in Rome with his 28-year-old girlfriend.

Gibson has been relatively quiet these days since becoming focused on rebuilding his career in Hollywood following his very public downfall.

He is currently filming Warner Bros’ "Waldo" alongside stars Charlie Hunnam and Morena Baccarin.
