Communication between the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, and her father, Thomas Markle, have been strained at best.
Things actually got worse from there. In August, 2018, a few months after she married Prince Harry, Markle wrote a letter saying her dad's exploits with the tabloids had “broken [her] heart into a million tiny little pieces.”
After more uncomfortable moments in the press, Thomas Markle leaked the letter to the press in an interview with the Daily Mail. Prince Harry then filed a lawsuit against the Mail, claiming a “breach of the Data Protection Act of 2018.” Harry says the Mail took parts of Meghan's letter out of context.
When the royal couple's child, Archie, was born, Markle's dad wanted to take part in the celebration, and to be there "for the blessing" of the newest member of the family. But so far, no go.
Thomas Markle sent a sincere congratulations to the family, but things have not warmed between Meghan and her dad.
Now he feels like he's been shut out of her life and wants to reconcile, probably not just because he wants to be a part of Meghan's life, but his grandson's life as well. It seems there needs to be a lot more heart-to-hearts before the story has a happy ending.
