"Today" show hosts Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie took some time out of their usual broadcast to mention the new allegations that have surfaced regarding former NBC employee Matt Lauer.

In Ronan Farrow's new book, "Catch and Kill," he interviews former NBC employee Brooke Nevils, who says that Lauer anally raped her in his hotel room during the 2014 Olympics.

Nevils' complaint is what led to Lauer's firing from the network in 2017.

Much of the details regarding the alleged rape is graphic.

Guthrie says she didn't know how to react:

"This is shocking and appalling and I honestly don't even know what to say about it..."

"I know it wasn't easy for our colleague, Brooke (Nevils), to come forward then. It's not easy now, and we support her and any women who have come forward with claims. It's just very painful for all of us at NBC and who are at the 'Today' show. It's very, very, very difficult."

Kotb says it felt like it was discovering something about someone you already thought you knew everything about.

"We were sitting here just like this two years ago.... you feel like you've known someone for 12 years, and I don't know if you guys have ever felt like that....You feel like you know them inside and out and then all of a sudden like a door opens up and it's a part of them you didn't know."

" We don't know the facts in all of this but ... there are allegations of a crime and I think that's shocking to all of us here who've sat with Matt for many many years."
