Matt Lauer May Get Kicked Out of the Broadcasting & Cable Hall of Fame

By TheBlast Staff

Matt Lauer may be stripped of the prestigious honor of being included in a Hall of Fame which honors legendary broadcasters and TV personalities.

An official for the Broadcasting & Cable Hall of Fame told us "the issue is under review at NewBay Media," when asked if Lauer will retain his status with the organization.

We're told the decision on whether Lauer should be ousted is difficult, and B&C wants to make sure they make the right move.

For now, Lauer's name still appears on the website for the Broadcasting & Cable Hall of Fame.

Lauer was inducted into the 18th annual Hall of Fame back in 2008. Katie Couric presented him with his award.

Other entertainers currently included as Hall of Famers; Merv Griffin, Larry King, Kathie Lee Gifford, and William Shatner.

When it was originally announced, Meredith Vieira told the "TODAY" show audience how proud she was of her co-host.

We're told NewMedia -- the company that runs the Hall of Fame -- should have a decision next week.

Here's an interesting tidbit -- the other person inducted into the B&C Hall of Fame class with Lauer in 2008 ... Roger Ailes.
