"Riverdale" fans were left sobbing throughout the entire tribute episode to the late Luke Perry on Wednesday night.

The highly-anticipated Season 4 premiere revealed how his character Fred Andrews' died, and how the show will go on without the beloved TV dad.

Warning! Spoilers up ahead!

His Death:

Writers for the show decided Fred was the victim of a hit and run.

He was heading back to Riverdale when he stopped to be a good samaritan and was struck by a speeding car that drove away.

Archie's Determination:

CW

Archie (KJ Apa) breaks down when he gets the phone call and decides he needs to bring his dad's body home.

With the help of Veronica (Camila Mendes), Betty (Lili Reinhart) and Jughead (Cole Sprouse), they head out of town to retrieve Fred's body.

Shannen Doherty:

While visiting the crash site, Archie and his friends stumble upon a mysterious woman holding flowers (Luke's former "90210" co-star Shannen Doherty).

Fans were anticipating her guest-starring role since it was announced in July but didn't know how her character would fit into the picture.

With tears in her eyes, she tells Archie she was the person who Fred Andrew's stopped to help. Explaining she was broken down and Fred was helping her with her tire when a car came speeding around the corner.

Shannen's character explains she froze and Luke's character pushed her out of the way, saving her life.

She grabs Archie's hand and they pray for this father.

Bringing his dad's body home was no easy task, but as Archie drives up to Riverdale (with a police escort, thanks to FP Jones) the whole town is lined up with signs for Fred.

Some read "Welcome Home, Fred" while others simply said "You Are Missed."

The camera pans to the crowd and shows close-ups of Cheryl Blossom, Reggie Mantle, Toni Topaz and Pops, who appear clearly emotional.

Memorial:

CW

Everything in this episode was so real, even the memorial where Archie got up and gave a eulogy for his dad.

Molly Ringwald's character, who plays Archie's mom, sat front row at the burial site with tears streaming down her face.

Everyone was crying and many were most certainly tears for their fallen co-star Luke Perry.

Fans couldn't hold it together either.

While they were warned by the show creator this episode was "bursting with sadness," no one could anticipate this.

Especially the end where they showed flashbacks of Perry's character as Archie is remembering all the father/son things they did together.

Luke Perry died after suffering a stroke in March while filming Season 3 of "Riverdale."

He was only 52 years old.
