We have some sad news. All that friction between Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper during their romantic Oscars performance? It was all a show.
If you’ll remember, Cooper and Gaga both starred in A Star Is Born in 2018.
Then in February, they shared the stage at the 2019 Oscars for a memorable duet that seemed so clearly sexy and full of chemistry. At that time, Cooper was still with Irina Shayk.
But Lady Gaga has confirmed the lack of a relationship with Cooper during an interview with Oprah Winfrey for Elle magazine.
Oprah got right to the point about that chemistry. She said she had spoken with Cooper about it, and reported her findings.
Oprah told Gaga,
“He said if they had been true, he never would have been able to look at you in the eye sitting at the piano.”
“He said his Catholic guilt would have never let him be able to look you in the eye at that piano. How did you feel about all that at the time. You handled it so well.”
Gaga says the whole thing, including that Oscars performance, was carefully orchestrated. After all, they were meant to be in love in A Star Is Born, and they’re both actors.
“I mean, we made a love story. For me, as a performer and as an actress, of course we wanted people to believe that we were in love. And we wanted people to feel that love at the Oscars.
And we worked hard on it, we worked for days. We mapped the whole thing out — it was orchestrated as a performance.”
Gaga says the two even talked about those love rumors after their Oscars performance, and it helped them realize that they had done a “good job.”
Just for the record, both of them are single right now.
