Revisiting Ancient History

The ongoing drama between Kanye West and Taylor Swift has been ongoing since he rushed the stage and interrupted her acceptance speech at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2009. Since then, they (or at least the public that has picked sides) have been locked in a seemingly never-ending conflict.

That conflict came to a head again in 2016, when West released his song "Famous," and included this lyric:

"I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex, why? I made that b-tch famous. God damn, I made that b-tch famous."

While Kanye and his wife Kim Kardashian claimed that Swift approved the lyric, she said that she didn't and famously asked "to be excluded from this narrative."

Kardashian posted snippets of the phone call where Swift allegedly approved the lyric, but a full version of the conversation has been leaked, and it actually seems like Kanye didn't read her that lyric at all. Swift says "I thought it was going to be like, ‘That stupid, dumb b*tch’, but it’s not."

Kanye asks her what she thinks about saying "I made her famous" and Swift responds, "Well, what am I going to do about it?"

"It’s just kind of like, whatever, at this point. But I mean, you’ve got to tell the story the way that it happened to you and the way that you’ve experienced it. Like, you honestly didn’t know who I was before that. Like, it doesn’t matter if I sold 7 million of that album [Fearless] before you did that, which is what happened. You didn’t know who I was before that. It’s fine."

Kim Is Over It

Many people online thought that the new leak was vindicating for Swift, who was called a snake by many -- remember all those emojis? -- and branded as a liar. Kim Kardashian is definitely not one of those people.

While she hasn't commented on the contents of the full video and what it points do, she did like a tweet saying "The video showed nothing new. We all knew that. I'm so confused right now."

It seems unlikely that Kim will address the situation (unless it comes up in a future episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians), but it just drives home the fact that she's ride or die for Kanye.

Back when this phase of the feud began, Kim said in an interview with GQ that Taylor approved the contentious lyric. She said:

"[Taylor] totally approved that [lyric]. She totally knew that that was coming out. She wanted to all of a sudden act like she didn’t. I swear, my husband gets so much shit for things [when] he really was doing proper protocol and even called to get it approved."

Is this the truth? Could this be the end of this particular beef? Almost certainly not.
