The six-year-old daughter of rapper Kid Cali – who was shot and killed in 2016 — has reached a settlement in the wrongful death lawsuit over the murder of her father.
According to court documents obtained by The Blast, the owner of the home where Cali (real name: Justin Lishey) was murdered will pay out $105,000 to Nya Lishey.
Two other men — Timothy Ellerson and Matthew Lofton, who were also shot that day but survived — will receive the same amount.
The documents state, “Petitioner fully understands that if the compromise proposed in this petition is approved by the court and is consummated, the claimant will be forever barred from seeking any further recovery of compensation from the settling defendants named below even though the claimant’s injuries may in the future appear to be more serious than they are thought to be.”
The defendant’s homeowner policy covered the payments.
Kid Cali was scheduled to perform at a highly-publicized house party on August 20, 2016 in Granada Hills, California. Kenny Birdine, who was 19 at the time, was arrested for the shooting, which was believed to be gang-related.
Birdine was found guilty of first-degree murder last October and is being sentenced later this month.
