Kelsey Grammer is mourning the loss of his TV father John Mahoney after it has been revealed what the patriarch of the Crane family died from.

Grammer shared the solemn sentiment in two sentences: "He was my father. I loved him." Mahoney co-starred with Grammer as the father to Frasier and Niles Crane during the hit NBC sitcom that ran for 11 seasons.

Mahoney died in Chicago at the age of 77 from complications of brain and kidney diseases, lung cancer, seizures and diabetes, according to the Daily Mail, who spoke with the Cook County Medical Examiner.
