Kelly Clarkson is hoping to keep her divorce with Brandon Blackstock out of the spotlight and away from the courtroom. In documents obtained by The Blast, the 38-year-old talk show host is asking for permission to hash out her divorce settlement in private, signifying that the two are on the same page when it comes to keeping the case out of the public eye. The former couple was married almost seven years before Kelly Clarkson pulled the plug and filed for divorce in June.
Kelly Clarkson has asked for joint physical and legal custody of their two children — 5-year-old River Rose and 4-year-old Remington Alexander. They also already had a prenup in place prior to their marriage which the country singer is asking the court to enforce. In her petition, she also asked the court to deny any request for spousal support.
In Brandon Blackstock’s response, he did not check the box to terminate support but checked the box “other” and listed “reserved.” It appears this issue will be something they will need to work out together.
As far as their kids go, Brandon Blackstock agreed with his former wife about sharing joint legal and physical custody. The Blast was told that there was no drama between the two that caused the breakup, it was an amicable decision and time to pull the plug. Not only were fans shocked over the breakup but insiders revealed that their close friends were too.
Brandon Blackstock dropped to his knee and asked for Kelly Clarkson’s hand in marriage after just 10 months of dating. The duo wed in a barn-inspired ceremony in October 2013. That year, she opened up to Cosmopolitan saying she was convinced they were going to spend the rest of their lives together. “Brandon’s totally the one,” she told the outlet. “I’ve never been so happy.” Prior to filing for divorce, she about their sex life and indicated there’s no problem between the two in the bedroom.
