Katy Perry revealed the huge news on Thursday morning that she and Orlando Bloom are expecting their first child together. The “American Idol” judge broke the news with the music video for her new single, “Never Worn White.” At the end of it, there’s a profile shot of Perry showing off her baby bump.
While everyone is excited for her to be a new mom, some were confused by the song’s “never worn white” lyrics considering she was previously married to Russell Brand.
“‘Cause I’ve never worn white / But I wanna get it right / Yeah, I really wanna try with you / No, I’ve never worn white / But I’m standin’ here tonight / ‘Cause I really wanna say ‘I do,'” Perry sings on the track.
Technically, Perry’s wedding gown for her 2010 ceremony with Brand was gray, not white.
“Guys this is truly Katy’s first time wearing a white wedding dress, she revealed that in her previous wedding her dress was grey,” one fan said on Twitter.
“When Katy got married with Russell brand she wore a grey dress and they ended up getting divorce and Katy got depression bc of that, but now she’s getting married with Orlando and she’s telling him that she’s ready to wear a white dress, so pure to me,” another added.
“OMG so glad I don’t have to suck it in anymore,” Perry tweeted after the video was released. “Or carry around a big purse lol,” she added.
“There’s a lot that will be happening this summer. Not only will I be giving birth literally, but also figuratively to something you guys have been waiting for. So let’s just call it a double whammy,” she said, hinting at a summer release for the full album.
“I am excited,” Perry continued. “We’re excited and happy. It’s probably the longest secret I’ve ever had to keep. I like to tell you guys everything, but I knew I would tell you in the best way, which was through a piece of music because that’s how I speak to you. That’s how we speak together with each other.”
Earlier this month, her fellow “American Idol” judge Luke Bryan told PEOPLE that Perry will be a great mom.
“She’s going to be a blast to have as a mom,” he said. “I couldn’t imagine growing up in her household. Even when I talk about me and my kids, she’s checking out how I juggle the kids. We’ll see one day if it ever happens how she’ll respond, but I know she’s going to be an amazing mom.”
