Jussie Smollett Attack: Police on Hunt for Video of Alleged Hate Crime

By TheBlast Staff

Chicago investigators are searching for video of "Empire" star Jussie Smollett getting brutally attacked outside of his apartment in hopes of tracking down the two suspects allegedly responsible.

The Blast obtained dispatch audio of Chicago officials "canvassing" the area for cameras near Smollett's apartment building. Investigators are looking for external cameras hanging off the sides of buildings, or any other video recording equipment that may have picked up the violent incident involving the actor.

One employee at Smollett's luxury high-rise apartment building tells The Blast cops were crawling all over the area Tuesday morning, and even tasked building management with trying to track down video. We're told, so far no video has been identified.

Sources familiar with the situation tell us Smollett has a car and usually drives in and out of the building's protected parking, and believed the actor was specifically targeted at a time he happened to be on foot.

As we reported, Smollett told cops the two suspects threw bleach in his face while yelling out racial and homophobic insults. There was also a noose allegedly placed around his neck. Smollett refused an ambulance, but transported himself to the hospital and was released in "good condition."

Police are currently investigating the incident as a possible hate crime.
