Julianne Hough is having a hard time coping with her recent divorce from Books Laich, according to a source who talked to US Weekly. The couple officially called it quits last month, and shortly afterward Hough traded in her signature blonde hair for a darker look. The outlet claims that the switch in hair color is a direct reflection of how she’s feeling right now.
“Julianne’s not doing great right now and feels like her brunette hair is a reflection of her feelings,” the insider told US Weekly. “She is super upset.”
Their relationship had been rocky for some time. The two decided to spend time apart during the coronavirus quarantine. She stayed behind in Los Angeles while Laich went to his home in Idaho with just his dog. Sources say that this time away from each other convinced them both that it was time to move on from one another.
Hough and Laich made their split official with a statement released to PEOPLE last month:
“We have lovingly and carefully taken the time we have needed to arrive at our decision to separate. We share an abundance of love and respect for one another and will continue to lead with our hearts from that place. We kindly request your compassion and respect for our privacy moving forward.”
The couple were married for nearly three years, but had changed a lot since exchanging their vows.
Last year, Hough made the shocking announcement that she is “not straight” and a “deeply different person than she was when they got married.”
And insider told PEOPLE that the relationship had been on life support for some time.
“It’s over, it’s been over for a while, and it’s time to just call it what it is — and it is over.” The source said, “There is honestly no ill will. He loves her. She loves him. I can truly say they always will. But they both understand they are not meant to go through their lives as husband and wife to each other.”
The source went on to add that Hough is happy with who she has evolved into now and she didn’t think it would be fair to ask Laich to change who he is.
“She is proud of those differences and changes she’s made and she doesn’t want to go back. He is the man he is and he shouldn’t change a thing. But they shouldn’t spend the rest of their lives together — not as spouses, anyway.”
