John Mayer is paying tribute to Mac Miller once again, but revealing why he did not want to participate in a tribute to the late hip-hop star.
The "I Guess I Just Feel Like" singer shared an intimate post Friday on Instagram, revealing he was asked to share memories for a Mac Miller tribute but decided not to participate.
"Several weeks ago, I was sent an email asking if I wanted to take part in a Mac Miller tribute for a magazine as part of an end-of-year recap," Mayer wrote. "I passed on it, not because I didn’t want to talk more about him, but because I couldn’t."
Saying he had already shared all the memories he had of the late rapper during "the brief time of our getting to know one another," and adding, "That day, I discovered a new dimension to the sadness of his passing - I wasn’t upset because I knew him well. I was upset because I didn’t."
John ended the post by saying, "I wish I had more to tell you about Mac Miller. What I do have to remember him by are a couple of beautiful mental photographs that I’ll keep with me the rest of my life."
Mayer did participate in a celebration of life concert with Lil Wayne and SZA shortly after Miller's death, which is where he shared the memories he did have.
Mac Miller died in his home this past September at the age of 26 from a deadly mixture of cocaine, fentanyl and alcohol. He was buried at a cemetery in his hometown of Pittsburgh.
