John Cena and Nikki Bella publicly broke up earlier this week following several weeks of claiming to be just friends, but photos showing the former couple on a secret vacation appear to suggest otherwise.
The WWE superstars were spotted in July on a low-key vacation in Lake Tahoe. During a photo-op with a young fan, Nikki tried to turn around and avoid being seen, which probably would’ve gone unnoticed if it weren’t for the GIGANTIC hat she was wearing, and posted her own photo of later that day.
Cena also suspiciously ducked out of a family photo of Nikki, Brie, JJ, Kathy and the rest of the Bella family.

Later that weekend, the couple was seen at a fancy dinner with Nikki’s whole family … and the two appeared to be far from broken up.

If you haven’t been following the rollercoaster of confusion that is Nikki and John’s relationship timeline, it all started after John – who first started dating Nikki in 2012 – proposed to her during in the ring at Wrestlemania 33 back in April 2017.
The pair abruptly announced they had broken up and called off the wedding roughly one year later.
Fast forward 6 weeks, two confusing “Total Bellas” episodes on the split just didn’t seem to add up, and countless highly publicized statements to the media about their hope for reconciliation later, and then the couple was officially back on in June … which also perfectly lined up with the new episodes of Nikki’s reality show.
That lasted for a month or so before Nikki posted a YouTube video updating fans on the latest with John, explaining they weren’t back together and were “Just friends” while he was in China filming a movie.
Recently, reports claimed Nikki had began house-hunting while John was off filming in China because she wanted to regain independence.
That independence was seemingly short-lived, as Cena clearly took a break from filming to return to the U.S. and head to Lake Tahoe for a secret, mid-July vacation with Nikki and her family.
Then on July 31, just one day after the “Total Bellas” season finale, Nikki told PEOPLE it was officially over, explaining, “After I called off the engagement, we tried to work on our relationship to get back to where it was, and in order to move forward with our wedding. After much time and soul-searching alone and together, we have decided to officially part ways.”
As for the next “reconciliation,” don’t expect anything genuine, we’ll probably have to see it play out on TV.
