Beatrice, who played Jay Pritchett’s prized pooch Stella, sadly passed away about a week ago, just days after cast members Ed O’Neill, Sofia Vergara and Ariel Winter finished taping the final episode of the extremely popular ABC series. It is unclear what led to the sudden death of the bulldog but Ferguson took time to share a special behind the scenes photo of Beatrice and himself.
“Rest In Peace sweet Beatrice,” Jesse said while tweeting out a photo of the dog in a movie chair. “We love you so much ? .”
“omg the saddest thing i’ve read today,” a follower replied to Jesse’s tweet. “the worst news amongst all the bad news,” another one said.
Jesse’s fans were saddened by the news of the passing of the beloved pooch and did their best to cheer the actor up.
“I think she held in for the end,” one follower wrote, while another said, “How sad. She was the best on the show.”
His replies were flooded with pictures and gifs of the dog’s many scenes from the show and many touching memories.
“I know the world is absolutely ruined right now and we should be focusing on that, but this has got to me Crying I cant believe she held on until the series finale, what an absolute pro/angel x,” a devastated fan wrote.

The character of Stella was a longtime fan-favorite and was at the center of several hilarious episodes during the 11-year series run. Stella was first introduced in season two during the episode, “Good Cop Bad Dog,” and made her debut as a problematic puppy hellbent on destroying everything. Stella eventually grew to be the backbone of the Pritchett family and was the pride and joy of Ed O’Neill’s character.
Beatrice was not the original dog to play the role of Stella but she came in and took the spot from another dog, Brigitte, during a controversial shake-up on the “Modern Family” set. Beatrice took over starting in season four and carried on with the character of Stella for the remainder of the series.
