Jerry Lewis' cause of death was related to a condition that plagued him throughout his life, heart disease.

The official cause of death for the "Nutty Professor" was determined by a hospice care physician and was deemed to be end-stage cardiac disease and peripheral vascular disease, according to a report from the Associated Press.

The legendary comedian and humanitarian, known for his muscular dystrophy telethons, suffered at least three heart attacks in younger years, the first in 1960 when he was only 32.

Lewis' family said he died at his home in Las Vegas surrounded by family.
