By Mike Walters

YouTube star Jake Paul has just been charged with two criminal misdemeanors for his alleged involvement in what police describe as a rioting and looting incident in Arizona.

According to the Scottsdale Police Department, Jake Paul has been criminally charged with Criminal Trespass and Unlawful Assembly after an investigation revealed he was in fact in attendance at the 'unlawful' event.

The Police Department said in a press release they had received "100s of tips in response to the events" and their further investigation of the case, "confirmed that Jake Paul was in attendance & remained inside after an unlawful assembly was declared."

Several Videos Surfaced Showing Jake Paul Inside The Arizona Mall

As we reported, social media lit up with eyewitness accounts and videos of the YouTube star taking part in a looting incident inside of an Arizona Mall.

Scottdale Police issued a statement about the charges, saying, "Following the riots and looting that occurred on the evening of May 30th, 2020 at the Scottsdale Fashion Square Mall, the Scottsdale Police Department received hundreds of tips and videos identifying social media influencer, Jake Joesph Paul (23) as a participant in the riot."

Youtuber Charged With Criminal Trespass And Unlawful Assembly

They continued, "Our investigation has revealed that Paul was present after the protest was declared an unlawful assembly and the rioters were ordered to leave the area by the police. Paul also unlawfully entered and remained inside of the mall when it was closed. As a result, Paul has been charged with Criminal Trespass and Unlawful Assembly (both misdemeanor charges)."

Jake Paul has already denied any involvement in looting or vandalism of any kind, claiming he was in Arizona to take part in a "peaceful protest."

Jake Paul: I Did NOT Engage In Looting Or Vandalism

But, several videos surfaced from inside the mall where several people were looting and destroying property inside the location. It's unclear if Paul took part in any of the destruction.

He added, the group he was protesting with was 'gassed and forced to keep moving on foot."

"To be absolutely clear, neither I nor anyone in our group was engaged in any looting or vandalism. For context, we spent the day doing our part to peacefully protest one of the most horrific injustices our country has ever seen, which led to us being tear-gassed for filming the events and brutality that were unfolding in Arizona," Paul said following the incident.

Jake Paul Claims He Was Simply 'Documenting' The Incident

The YouTuber claims he was simply documenting the event as they were unfolding and was not taking part in the violence or looting but filmed it "in an effort to share our experience and bring more attention tot he anger felt in every neighborhood we traveled through; we were strictly documenting, not engaging."

"I do not condone violence, looting or breaking the law; however, I understand the anger and frustration that led tot he destruction we witnessed and while it's not the answer, it's important that people see it and collectively figure out how to move forward in a healthy way," Paul said his statement following the incident.

In light of the criminal charges, Paul is due in an Arizona court in July.
