COVID-19, otherwise known as the coronavirus, has ripped through the world’s population with alarming speed. As it continues to spread, many people are attempting to “flatten the curve” in order to slow the virus down so that hospitals aren’t as overwhelmed. This process includes extreme “social distancing,” which has had an effect on a number of industries.
Hollywood has been hit hard by the virus, with a number of productions getting postponed until further notice as well as film premieres. On top of that, celebrities are starting to come down with coronavirus, including some of Hollywood’s most beloved.
“This morning I tested positive for Covid 19. I feel ok, I have no symptoms so far but have been isolated since I found out about my possible exposure to the virus. Stay home people and be pragmatic. I will keep you updated on how I’m doing ???? No panic.”
He also used the video to encourage people to stick to best practices for halting the virus’ spread.
“Look, this is serious, you know? Now’s the time to really think about social distancing, washing your hands. Beyond that, there are people out there who aren’t showing symptoms and that can easily spread it. Okay? So now’s a real time to be really vigilant about washing your hands and keeping your distance.”

It’s unclear exactly where Elba contracted the virus, but he has a link to another famous figure who has tested positive. Elba was photographed in London with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau‘s wife Sophie Grégoire Trudeau at an event for WE Day. She posted on Instagram about the event, writing:
“My heart is full after spending time working with my own family and the WE family. Our message in London: Show yourself love and offer that same love to the world.”
She later tested positive for coronavirus, although Prime Minister Trudeau did not.
The first celebrities to report that they had contracted COVID-19 were Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, who were on location in Australia. Hanks wrote on Instagram:
“We felt a bit tired, like we had colds, and some body aches. Rita had some chills that came and went. Slight fevers too. To play things right, as is needed in the world right now, we were tested for the Coronavirus, and were found to be positive. Well, now. What to do next? The Medical Officials have protocols that must be followed. We Hanks’ will be tested, observed, and isolated for as long as public health and safety requires. Not much more to it than a one-day-at-a-time approach, no? We’ll keep the world posted and updated. Take care of yourselves!”
Truly, take care of yourselves. It’s getting ugly out there.
