Hugh Hefner's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame has been vandalized.

Hefner's star was defaced Saturday, the same day the Playboy icon was reportedly laid to rest.

In a misguided tribute, the vandal wrote "R.I.P" and drew a crown above Hefner's name. No matter the intent, it's still a crime.

An official for the Walk of Fame tells The Blast they are aware of the damage and are currently trying to track down the culprit, who will be in major trouble if identified.

In the past, people have been prosecuted for messing with the stars. One man was recently sentenced to three years probation for vandalizing Donald Trump's star.

We're told the cost of repairing and cleaning a damaged star can run in the thousands, so if a person is caught in the act they are usually on the hook for the damages. The walk of fame generally files a police report with the City Attorney who can prosecute the individual.

The Walk of Fame official called the act "disrespectful" and says the Hollywood Historic Trust -- the nonprofit which oversees Walk of Fame repairs -- will be immediately contacted to assess the damage and begin the restoration process.
