The only predictable thing about trendy toys is that trends are unpredictable. Once upon a time, children’s Christmas lists were primarily influenced by commercials. But today, the hottest toy companies find as much inspiration online as they do on television.

Unsurprisingly, traditional toy making titans such as Fisher- Price, Mattel and LEGO made significant contributions to the most popular Christmas toys of the 2019 holiday season. Number one on the list was the Fisher-Price Linkimals Smooth Moves Sloth which introduces infants to colors, numbers and the alphabet. What is surprising, however, is that the toy was not created in response to a popular cartoon or viral video.
The second hottest toy on the market was the Baby Shark Official Dancing Doll. Manufactured by WowWee Toys, the doll hit shelves nationwide in response to the extraordinarily popular video and song on YouTube that has logged billions of views. Educational toys were also a hit with children of all ages. The Fisher-Price Code ‘n Learn Kinderbot is an interactive toy that teaches preschoolers early math principles. Additionally, Learning Resources Coding Critters enables preschoolers to learn STEM concepts through 100% screen-free coding.
The only glaring omission from the list is one that has proven to be a perennial favorite for generations: puppies.
