The fatal crash that killed the two members of the band Her’s and their manager was caused by a wrong-way driver who might have been drinking at the time of the accident.
According to a rep for the Arizona Department of Public Safety, a report came in just after 1:00 AM on March 27 of a car driving east on the westbound I-10 freeway. A short time later, the Nissan pickup truck collided head-on with the band’s Ford passenger van and both vehicles were engulfed in flames.
There was no evidence from the scene showing that either car braked before impact.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety also says “an alcoholic beverage container was located in the debris field.” It is unclear to authorities which vehicle the container came from.
The driver of the Nissan, a 63-year-old man, and everyone in the Ford — Stephen Fitzpatrick, Audun Laading and Trevor Engelbrektson — all died in the crash.
Her’s, an up-and-coming band from Liverpool, had performed in Phoenix and were on their way to Santa Ana for another show when the crash occurred.
