Harvey Weinstein Tests Positive For Coronavirus Inside New York Prison

Harvey Weinstein has just tested positive for the Coronavirus while he sits inside of a New York prison.

According to several reports, Weinstein who is currently serving a 23-year sentence inside of the Wende Correctional Facility in Western New York.

It is being reported, Weinstein tested positive for the virus when he entered the state prison system last Wednesday when he was transferred from Riker's Island jail.

Weinstein is one of two inmates who have tested positive inside of the prison.

According to The New York Post, a prison official confirmed the diagnosis but would not elaborate due to privacy issues.

The local news near the prison reports, Michael Powers, president of the New York State Correctional Officers and Police Benevolent Association, said he would not confirm the news but has urged "state corrections officials to immediately suspend all non-essential transfers of inmates from one state facility to another."

"There is no better breeding ground for this virus than a closed environment such as a correctional facility," Powers said.

Weinstein's spokesperson, Juda Engelmayer, told the Post Harvey's team was granted permission for his lawyers and a fired prison consultant to view his medical records, but claims none of them have seen a coronavirus diagnosis.

Weinstein Being Isolated From Other Inmates


The disgraced producer was hospitalized he was arrested after he was diagnosed with high blood pressure and a heart condition. According to reports, he underwent a stent procedure to open up arteries in his heart.

Weinstein is being isolated from the rest of the prison population, but the Associated Press has reported New York City has the nation’s largest jail outbreak of the Coronavirus, with at least 38 inmates testing positive.

Inmates inside the facilities are not the only ones vulnerable to infection, three NY state corrections officers are among those who have tested positive for the virus, and are currently being treated.

Harvey Weinstein is serving a 23-year prison sentence for rape and sexual assault and will remain in a prison hospital ward.
