Flavortown Can Be Intense For Fans

Guy Fieri is one of the most popular hosts on the Food Network these days.

Just some of his shows include favorites "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives," "The Best Thing I Ever Ate," "Guy's Big Bite," and "Guy's Ranch Kitchen."

DIY Food

One reason why Guy Fieri became a chef was because when he was growing up, his family ate a lot of "steamed fish and brown rice and bulgur."

And when he spoke out about it to his mom, she would tell him to go cook something himself if he wasn't happy with what he ate.

One time, he asked, " 'Can’t we just have chicken Parmesan like the normal families?’ So my mom said, ‘You know, Guy? If you don’t like the way we cook, you cook.’ ”

So that's what he did.

He Eats Plants Too

But even now, he doesn't just stick with meat and all that good stuff that he's most famous for.

"We indulge from time to time but for the most part, we eat well-balanced, often very plant-based meals," he says.

“I’m not saying that I’m a vegetarian, but people would be surprised at the amount of plant-based foods that I eat. Don’t get me wrong — I get down with a good burger, but in moderation.”

His Sister Changed His Cooking Outlook

And after his sister died of melanoma when she was 38, Fieri took his eating habits one step further. He says his sister wanted him to come up with new foods that would accommodate her dietary restrictions.

“It really opened my mind. I think it was the last gift she gave me. It changed me as a chef," he said in 2016.
