The mother of George Floyd's daughter, Roxie Washington, broke her silence about his death in a highly emotional press conference on Tuesday afternoon. Floyd and Washington shared six-year-old Gianna together, and now she's left without a father after he was killed by Minneapolis police while under arrest.

Washington spoke at Minneapolis City Hall and was fighting back tears as she confessed that she didn't have much to say because she was having trouble organizing her thoughts about the situation.

"I'm here for my baby, and I'm here for George. Because I want justice for him. I want justice for him because he was good. No matter what anybody thinks, he was good. And this is the proof that he was a good man," Washington said, pointing to their daughter.

Floyd died on May 25 while detained and in handcuffs. Former Minneapolis policer officer Derek Chauvin was filmed holding Floyd face down with his knee in the back of his neck for roughly nine minutes.

The 46-year-old went unconscious and was taken to a hospital by ambulance where he was later pronounced dead. His death was officially ruled a homicide after an autopsy due to "cardiopulmonary arrest complicating law enforcement subdual, restraint, and neck compression."

Chauvin Has subsequently been charged with third degree murder and manslaughter. There were three other police officers on the scene at the time, and while all three have been fired, none of them have been formally charged with any crimes yet.

"He would never see her grow up, graduate ... he would never walk her down the aisle," Washington later added during the press conference. "If there's a problem that she's having, she doesn't have her dad anymore."

Washington said Floyd moved from his native Texas (he was born in Houston) to Minnesota to build a better life for himself. While she and Gianna lived away from him, Washington said Floyd was always a very supportive father.

Washington admitted she had no idea how to break the news of her father's death to Gianna when it first happened. But then Gianna kept hearing his name and news, so she had to attempt to tell her something.

"The only thing I could tell her is he couldn't breathe," Washington said.

Protests have been going on in virtually every major American city for eight days and nights since Floyd's death. On Tuesday, over 60,00 peaceful protesters marched in Houston. There will be a public memorial service for Floyd there next week.
