'Game Of Thrones' Prequel Series About House Targaryen Is Nearing An HBO Pilot Order

By Clark Sparky

"Game of Thrones" fans might be getting another sequel series.

Deadline reports that HBO is close to green lighting a pilot for a series based on George R.R. Martin's book Fire & Blood. It will reportedly be created by Martin and "Colony" co-creator Ryan Condal.

The series will be set 300 years before the events in "Game of Thrones," and will chronicle the rise of House Targaryen.

This is believed to be one of the five "Game of Thones" prequel series that HBO commissioned scripts for in 2017. In May, Martin wrote on his blog that three of those five scripts were "still moving forward nicely."

One of the three scripts that we already know is in development is a prequel starring Naomi Watts that wrapped shooting on a pilot this summer. It isn't yet named, but takes place thousands of years before the events of "Game of Thrones" during the Age or Heroes.

The book Fire & Blood is a companion piece to Martin's A Song of Fire and Ice franchise which is meant as a sort of encyclopedia of House Targaryen.

It documents their rise as the only family of dragonlords to survive the Doom of Valyria. Certainly plenty of material for a fantastic television series.
