Versace is suing Fashion Nova over what they say is a copycat dress that rips off J. Lo's iconic look from the 2000 Grammy awards.
We all know this dress. It's that floral green print dress, with a huge, plunging, extremely revealing neckline and its super high-cut slit right up the middle. Only one person could pull off that look, and it was Jennifer Lopez.
Fox News says Versace is seeking an injunction to halt sales of the dress and prevent further damage.
It's Fashion Nova's "Love Don't Cost a Thing 2 Piece Costume Set" and it sells for $69. Cheeky.
It's described as a maxi dress with a V-shaped plunge in the front and a high slit. You could also describe it as "phony J. Lo knockoff dress from the Grammys."
This dress is also described as having "Sheer Chiffon Printed Fabric" and "Matching Panty."
Ooh la la.
Fashion Nova
Fashion Nova's description of the dress is not hiding the fact that it's referencing J. Lo's original look, although they're calling it a "Halloween Costume." It seems like they think labeling the dress as a seasonal novelty item will get them off the hook.
They're even describing it as a "pop singer costume" from the "sexy 2000s."
"2 Piece Halloween Costume Set
Sexy 2000s Pop Singer Costume
Style With Microphone For The Perfect Look!"
And it's 100 percent polyester. It's a final sale, but unfortunately, it's all sold out.
Versace is calling Fashion Nova a
“serial infringer specializing in 'fast-fashion' knock-offs," according to TMZ.
Page Six writes that Versace says that the "jungle print" that's so famous is actually a copyright design. Versace also says Fashion Nova took their "Barocco" graphic.
Versace has also allegedly said Fashion Nova disregarded their warning from July about the dress, saying they “objected to Fashion Nova’s infringing activities.”
So now they feel they have no choice but to sue them over its alleged replica design.
J. Lo even recently modeled a similar dress during Versace's spring 2020 runway fashion show in Milan. The dress had the same jewel-green tone, a low, revealing back and a long train.
J. Lo blew everybody away there, because the woman does not age.
J. Lo posted this text with the video:
"So this just happened...?✨ @donatella_versace #jungledress @versace #stillgoingstrong #20yearanniversary #catwalk"
Fashion show attendees were naturally impressed to see Lopez wearing the same type of dress that she did 20 years ago. She looks as good now as she did two decades ago.
