Emily Ratajkowski Opens Up About Battling 'Serious Depression'

Emily Ratajkowski is constantly making headlines for her rocking bikini body and unapologetic feminism, and while it appears to the outside world that the 28-year-old has it all, she's proving that's not the case. On Monday, she told her nearly 26 million Instagram followers that she was secretly battling "serious depression" last year. Posting a black and white snap of herself that she says was taken at the end of the year, Emily Ratajkowski explained what she took away from 2019 which she called "one of the hardest years of my life."

Revealing Her Depression:


Explaining that her mom "was really sick," the model said, "I was battling a serious depression and everything felt very uncertain." Admitting 2020 "is definitely giving last year a run for its money," she told her fans that she's "learned how to take better care of myself." Stating that she doesn't like to get too personal on social media, Emily Ratajkowski said that while she's doing better, she's "far from having shit figured out." Sharing several notes she jotted down on New Year's Eve, Emily Ratajkowski showed off the list she created regarding what she took away from 2019.

Sharing Her Story:


Telling her fans, "I wanted to share them and a little piece of my story in case they might make any of you feel less alone in the anxiety or confusion or fear you could be experiencing right now," Emily Ratajkowski posted her handwritten notes to herself. To begin, she wrote that success doesn’t always equal happiness. “The things that other people see as successes will not always be the same as the things that actually make you happy," she wrote. And when it comes to love, the model said, "Loving means giving up control. This is how you can receive love, this is how you can give it."

In regards to how people see her, Emily Ratajkowski reminded herself it's out of her control. "You can't control other people's perceptions so do not let their perceptions dictate your life or who you are," she stated. Writing that “laughing at yourself is everything,” she added, “life goes by too quickly to be afraid of making mistakes.” Emily Ratajkowski also wrote that regardless of what one's going through, perseverance is key: "The world is completely unfair, but that’s no excuse."
